Year 6 Life Hacks!

Life Hacks!

We have been extremely busy in Year 6 this week developing and gaining new skills by completing a range of different activities. This week we were focusing on 'Learning to Learn' activities, which we have all found very enjoyable. Even Miss Davies and Miss McKitterick! We have been linking our Learning to Learn activities to our school's learning behaviours and considering how these behaviours allow us to become more effective learners.

Activity 1: Collaboration
We had 3 challenges to complete using three types of equipment, a  cube, lolly pop sticks and small plastic cups. Challenge 1: Build a stable structure with just one cube as its base. Challenge 2: Using each piece of equipment, build the tallest structure. Challenge 3: Build a structure which has an object protruding in an impressive way. This is what we made!

Activity 2: Reflection
This activity involved us using our bubble writing, colouring and scissor skills. We thought we would find this easy but actually, it was very challenging. It is safe to say, we definitely needed to do some reflection but we are really happy with the end result.

Activity 3: Resilience
We had to use our ruler skills to create cardioids! A cardioid is a plane curve traced by a point on the perimeter of a circle that is rolling around a fixed circle of the same radius. It can also be defined as an epicycloid having a single cusp. We focused on our grip when holding a ruler and the way in which we draw our lines. We were professionals by the end!
