Music Concert

Parents were treated to another wonderful music concert this afternoon. Children from Year 5 and 6 and the Musical Theatre club performed. We were amazed at their talent. Well done everyone.

Science week in 1L

Are birds or people better at making bird nests?...

1L have enjoyed planning, designing, making and evaluating bird nests to test this question.

The materials they used were leaves, feathers, straw, sticks and clay to make the nests.

They tested whether their nests would keep birds safe on a windy day.
The results were that birds are better at making nests... as some of them blew away but 1L still had fun investigating!

Parents were invited into class to look at all their children's
Some parents even tried to make a nest their selves :)
Thank you for coming!

Get out, stay out, call 999!

To end Year 1's topic on The Great Fire of London the fire service came into school to explain all about their job, how to keep safe and the equipment they use to fight fires.

1L have been amazing at learning all about The Great Fire of London and understand that if firefighters, like we have today, were around in 1666 the fires could have been prevented.

Everyone was super excited to get inside a real fire truck and practice being a firefighter by wearing helmets, driving the fire truck (simulator) and pulling a water hose.

It was a great day and thank you to Phil and Dave for teaching us how to keep safe.

Green Council care for our school

Recently, Green Council met and had lots of items on the agenda (things to discuss).

A few meetings ago, some members noticed that playtime equipment was sometimes going missing.

So in our last meeting we started to label equipment with "SWP". We are hoping this will mean that fewer balls and other playtime items will disappear!

If you see any playtime equipment around the school or community, please bring it back to the office.

We are going to try very hard to look after what we've been given and we hope everyone will help us.

Year 4 Music Concert

Year 4 gave a wonderful performance today. Well done!

Dragon's Den in 6D

This term, Year 6 have been reading Stormbreaker - the first book in the Alex Rider series. Alex is a teenage spy who has to use many different gadgets on his missions. This inspired us to create our own, and today we pitched these to the Dragon!

All of the pitches were well-though through and delivered professionally, but there can only be one winner - the Sound Enhancing Phone! Congratulations.

Cross-country relays

Throughout the year, teams of KS2 children have competed in cross-country races against around 25 Southampton schools. This culminated on Friday with the March Hare relays. We ran in teams, rather than individually, and scored our best results of the season!

Boys: 14th
Girls: 15th
Mixed boys and girls: 9th

Next term, Mr Kelly will be coaching at running club - we're looking for the next team of cross-country runners to represent Shirley Warren, starting with the Autumn 2018 season. Could you be one of them?

4T Super Movers

4T have been enjoying celebrating Sports Relief. We loved getting active this week and showing off our super moves!

YR Sport Relief

Reception Class was very proud to support Sport Relief today. We enjoyed our non - uniform day and we raised money to the charity. We dressed up in sporty clothes and enjoyed a range of activities: dancing to Step It Up song, Cosmic Kids Yoga and some exercises with Sportacus from Lazy Town. We are looking forward to Sport Relief Day next year!

5M Super Movers

5M have been getting their dance on this week and showing some Super Moves for Sport Relief!

Super movers in 1L

All week we have been completing SuperMover routines to get our heart rates up.

These videos help us exercise and learn at the same time!

We have recapped the rules on sentence features
and danced along to the alphabet.

It has been very fun and we are all dressed up for Sport Relief today.

Year 6C we have been dancing to Maths songs this week. Lots of fun and learning at the same time in Sports Relief Week.

Step it Up for Sports Relief

All of Key Stage 2 came together to sing and dance to the Sports Relief Song!

Year 6 Tag Rugby

Yesterday, a team of Year 6 children headed to Test Park to take part in city-wide tag rugby tournament. They had a great time and finished 6th out of 12 teams - a very respectable placing considering they had only played together once!

Science Week in Reception

Last week was Science week!  In Reception we did lots of exploring and discovering.

We looked at what happened to water when we put it in the freezer and then once it was frozen, we thought about how to get the objects out.  We then discovered that when the ice warmed up, it turned back into water!

We also made bubbles and used different shaped objects to blow them - but the bubbles were still round!

Finally, we made a balloon rocket!  We used the materials pictured and we talked about what makes the balloon move.  Try it yourself!

Reception loved being scientists! Well done!

Sport Relief Challenge in 3N

We completed a SuperMover routine all about number bonds to raise our heart rates and help us learn our bonds more fluently. It was very fun and we are now looking forward to Sport Relief day tomorrow!

Year 6 becoming SuperMovers!

As it's Sport Relief week, we are taking part in SuperMovers routines across the school. You can check this out at home by searching for 'BBC SuperMovers'; there are lots of routines you can access which will practise your times tables, Maths and English!
Here's 6D grooving away to decimals and fractions this morning.
Don't forget to wear your sporty clothes on Friday and bring a donation for Sport Relief!

RG's Treat

RG have been superstars and filled up the class reward jar with marbles! They chose to make their own jam or cheese spread sandwiches and have a picnic as their treat.

Well done RG!

Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby

Yesterday, some representatives of Year 3 and 4 attended the Test Park Tag Rugby Tournament. They all had a great time and Mrs Rogers and Mr Wood loved how although they didn't win, they were very gracious to the other teams and all tried their best. Well done everyone!

RG Planting Potatoes!

This week we planted our potatoes. We talked about what the potatoes need to grow. These were... the soil, light and water.

We are looking forward to watching them grow and especially eating them once they are ready. Yum!

Early Years Sing Up Day!

Today was Sing Up day.  We started our day with a fantastic assembly lead by Mrs Bullas and we did lots of singing!

Ask your child to sing you one of the songs.

Special Project for Green Council

Green Council had a special visitor today, Jenny from Sustrans.  She has chosen 3 of her favourite schools to help her with a project finding out how children travel to school.  The Green Council and teachers will be recording the data every day for four weeks for her.

Here she is explaining the project to Green Council.

We are looking forward to seeing the results, which she will come and explain to us.

Amazing home learning about The Great Fire of London.

1L have not only been enthusiastic in class learning all about the events of The Great Fire of London, but they have also been busy learning about it at home.

In the classroom there are now lots of pictures, timelines, facts, posters, 3D buildings, books and much more, on display, that 1L have produced at home.

Thank you 1L for always trying your hardest and producing amazing work and thank you parents for supporting their learning :) This really is a great topic!

Violin Performance

Key Stage 2 were treated to a wonderful performance by the Year 6 Violin players in assembly today.
Great work everyone!

World Book Day in 1S

Well, we're not sure what happened to Mr Soffe today, but luckily he had asked The Cat in the Hat to come and help us with our learning as we celebrated World Book Day. We had a great day talking about our favourite books and characters and spoke about how important it is to make sure we read every day, even if it is just for 10 minutes!  Can you guess who we all are?

1L's World Book Day

1L celebrated Work Book Day dressed as various characters. Can you guess who we are?

Our reading corner is used everyday!

1L love reading and using the cosy cushions, cuddly teddy bears and being in the cool castle.

Where do you read with your children at home?

RG's World Book Day 2018

Today we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters.
Can you guess who we are???
