Girls Football - Match 2
Last night, our second team of girls headed to Newlands for a friendly match. We knew it would be a challenge, as this is our first time playing together, and against a strong team!
Everyone gave it everything they had and Miss Dickinson and Miss McKitterick were really proud to be coaching them on the sidelines.
Well done girls!

Football team victory!
Yesterday, the football team competed in the Testlands Tournament against 10 other schools. It was a very hot day; luckily umbrellas at bottoms of bags came in handy for shade!
We had an unlucky start, losing to Moorlands (who went on to win the entire tournament) and Springhill B. This put us into the B league.
However after lunch the games flipped our way as we went on to beat Bassett Green 2-0, Springhill B 3-0, Banister B 6-0 and Banister A 1-0!
There were some superb passes and interceptions - Miss Dickinson was very proud to be on the sidelines cheering them on!
The tournament ended with us winning our league. Congratulations boys - you have worked so hard this year and after that great performance yesterday, you deserved to win!

Sports Leaders
Over the year, the Shirley Warren Sports Leaders have been training to plan and deliver sports to children across the school. They have been out at lunchtimes running fun activities with Key Stage 1 and yesterday they assisted our coaches with a Year 1 lesson!
Mr Stanley and Mr Ship have been blown away by their patience, dedication and leadership skills and said that they were absolutely amazing in yesterday's lesson. Well done Sports Leaders!
If you are in Year 4 or 5 and think you might make a good Sports Leader, make sure you let Mr Ship or Miss Dickinson know as we'll be looking for new Leaders next year!

Green Council care for our school
A few meetings ago, some members noticed that playtime equipment was sometimes going missing.
So in our last meeting we started to label equipment with "SWP". We are hoping this will mean that fewer balls and other playtime items will disappear!
If you see any playtime equipment around the school or community, please bring it back to the office.
We are going to try very hard to look after what we've been given and we hope everyone will help us.

Cross-country relays
Throughout the year, teams of KS2 children have competed in cross-country races against around 25 Southampton schools. This culminated on Friday with the March Hare relays. We ran in teams, rather than individually, and scored our best results of the season!
Boys: 14th
Girls: 15th
Mixed boys and girls: 9th
Next term, Mr Kelly will be coaching at running club - we're looking for the next team of cross-country runners to represent Shirley Warren, starting with the Autumn 2018 season. Could you be one of them?

Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby
Yesterday, some representatives of Year 3 and 4 attended the Test Park Tag Rugby Tournament. They all had a great time and Mrs Rogers and Mr Wood loved how although they didn't win, they were very gracious to the other teams and all tried their best. Well done everyone!

Bikeability training
This week, Year 5 have been training with the Bikeability instructors to ride safely on their bikes. Level 1 saw them practising on the playground to ensure their stability and independence - this has been a great achievement for some children who could not ride at all before this week!
Level 2 children are currently out on the local roads learning how to stay safe with signalling and being aware of other road users. Their instructors have been so pleased with their willingness to learn. Well done Year 5!

Fantastic Footballers
After school on Wednesday I was at Testlands Hub to watch my son play football for another school and look who I saw!
The boys from Years 5 and 6 played really well. They won their first match 3:1 and lost the second 4:0 (neither against my son's school so I could cheer them on!) It was lovely to join parents, siblings and grandparents cheering on the sidelines and great to see children I teach showing different skills to classroom work.
Special thanks must go to Mr Ship and Mr Kelly who organise and coach the children. Keep it up, Team Shirley Warren!

Stretching ourselves in 6D - in more ways than one!
Last week, the whole school took part in Joe Wicks' live school workouts. On Friday, Year 6 tackled some (rather difficult!) exercises such as squats, lunges, mountain climbs and press ups. We had great fun but had some rather achy muscles afterwards! A great brain break and it helped us to think about our heart rate and our circulatory systems as part of our Science topic.

1L Getting fit and healthy!
1L were finding out about how to eat and be healthy this week. Part of their week was to follow Joe Wick's live workout as doing exercise can keep you healthy and has many benefits to your body.

It's always important to stretch and Joe showed us some easy stretches to finish our workout.

Y2 Working Out on a Wednesday!!!

Year 3 working out!
When we heard about Joe Wicks, the body coach, doing work outs for schools we decided that we must do them! After our dance session today (we were very busy bees today!) we completed one of the work out sessions that Joe was hosting on his YouTube channel. We had great fun but we were very tired at the end!
Here are some pictures of us!
