People Who Help Us

We have had a busy week in nursery this week with lots of visitors!

On Tuesday, PCSOs Kate and Simi came to talk to us about their jobs and how they help to keep us safe and happy.

Yesterday, Redbridge Firefighters came and showed us how they help to keep us safe and how they put out fires.  They even let us have a go with the hose!

Have a safe and happy half term!

RG Farm

We loved our visit from Farmer Ian and his animals last week! The children learnt lots about the animals and how they grow. They listened well to Ian and answered his questions with excitement. This carried on through the week as our learning continued to be inspired. We have made animals on the making table and been writing letters to thank Farmer Ian. what great fun!

Art in Year 5C

We have had a super afternoon learning a variety of techniques, to create different clay effects. This is because we will be making a Viking long boat out of clay. Today, we got to pratise the scratch and stick, rolloing coils and pinching and pulling techniques. We are looking forward to designing our long boats!

Longdown Farm Visit

Today we had a visit from farmer Ian from Longdown Farm. He brought donkeys, chicks, hens, piglets, ducks and goats with him for us to feed and pet.  The children were really brave and sensible when petting the animals - some even had a chick on their head!

Miss Smith and Miss Dickinson complete the Gauntlet Games!

On Saturday 13th May, Miss Dickinson and I decided to take part in a 5K obstacle race to raise money for Naomi House and Jack's Place. We had a great time completing all of the obstacles even through the pouring rain. Between us we have raised over £250 which is amazing for the charity! Here are some photos that summarise our day!

Well done Year 6!

For those of you who didn't know, Year 6 have been hard at work this week completing our end of Key Stage 2 test (SATs). Each morning, we enjoyed breakfast together - thank you Mrs Cook for making so many bacon and sausage rolls! (Masterchef 2018?)

I have been so impressed with the focus and perseverance shown by every single member of Year 6 over the past few days. You all gave 110% and I know everyone is very proud of you!

As a celebration, we have enjoyed a duvet afternoon today! Have a super weekend (without revision)!

This Week in Pre-nursery

Pre-nursery have been learning all about 'People Who Help Us'. The children have enjoyed pretending to be fire fighters, they have been putting out fires using spray water bottles. The children have been driving to the rescue in our police car and fire engine!

Eco Club and their Green Fingers

We are proud to have a school where we look after the environment and this afternoon there was a super sight on our sunny school grounds.

Eco club had come to do some weeding on the bottom playground.

Can you spot what they are wearing to keep safe?

When you come to school tomorrow, have a look and see if you can see the difference around this tree near reception.  If you want to join Eco club it's after school and run by Mrs Bedwell.

Garden Gurus

Year 2 are using their knowledge about plants to help Gardener Gilbert refresh his garden centre. Today, we used our SPaG skills (questions and commands) to write a questionnaire that we took around the school for adults and children to answer. This means we got 30 responses from each class.

We would really appreciate your help in answering our big questionnaire about plants and garden centres. There are some tick box questions and some spaces for you to give us extra information if you'd like.

When the questionnaires are done, we will be able to tell Gardener Gilbert what is wrong with his garden centre and start making improvements using our wisdom and knowledge!

Here are the links for our questionnaires:

If you have any problems answering these questionnaires please let your class teachers know!

Thank you!

Growth in Reception

In Year R we are learning about growth and change. We are very excited to be able to watch this for ourselves with our caterpillars. We received them last week and they have already been eating and growing. We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and can't wait to find our first cocoon.

Year 2's Midsummer Night's Dream

We had a visit from a lovely lady called Beth. She told us the story of A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare and we did some acting to help us learn the story. What a crazy story it was! We learnt all about the friends, the fairies and the workers and how they worked together to create such a wonderful and interesting story.

Have a look at some of the photos from the day! There are photos of 2W and 2D here.

Visit from a Dentist

Today, as part of our 'People Who Help Us' topic, we had a visit from a lady called Mrs Neal who was a dentist.

She brought a bag with lots of different objects which dentists use to help keep our teeth clean and healthy.

She also showed us how to brush our teeth properly for 2 minutes, twice a day and not eat too many sweets as they are bad for our teeth!
