Caterpillars

In reception we had a very special delivery today! We have got some lovely caterpillars to keep in our classes. We will be watching them everyday to see how they are changing and we are already excited for the butterflies. We have been researching butterflies and deciding names that we may like to call them when they hatch. We will keep you updated on their progress!

Y3 Music

Year 3 have been thinking about how music can give a mood or feeling. We are listening to music written by the famous film composer John Williams. This week we have performed music by reading a graphic score. We thought about how the pictures told us what sounds to make.

"We get lots of visits from people, eg the police, Bike It."
"We want to keep the school eco friendly."
"We talk about how we can make our environment a better place."
"We go on trips."
"We talk about important things".
"We get to vote for Good Egg"
"We tell people about things, to learn about new things in the school."
"We sort things out if people are being mean to people."
"We talk about things that need fixing."
"At break time, some children like to play pretend fighting, you can say to them stop."

We would also like to ask for your help in keeping our community and school clean.
Come and see us if you have any ideas or questions.

The Bigfoot Mountain Debate in Year 6

Today, Year 6 hosted a debate about whether Bigfoot Mountain should be developed for tourism.

Children were put into groups such as environmentalist, skier, developer, farmers, Indians and local people and they had to argue whether they were for or against the proposed development.

Here is the agenda...

The discussion was heated with strong debate, but when it came to vote for "Should Bigfoot Mountain Ski Resort be granted planning permission?" "yes" gained 10 votes but "no" gained 18 votes, so the motion failed.

However, Mrs Carrington said that the best debaters were really those for the Ski resorts.

How do you think you would vote?

Space Explorers

Over the Easter break we had something very exciting happen down in Reception. We came back to find a spaceship in our classroom! We will now be learning about space and the children have begun the week brilliantly showing lots of fascination around the planets and space travel. We are really looking forward to the next weeks of learning!

We're going on a plant hunt...

In Year 2, we're just starting our new topic in Science... plants! We were very excited to learn about plants and remembered lots of things from Year 1 like the parts of a plant and the difference between trees and flowers. To get us ready for our Year 2 learning objectives, we thought about where plants grow in our school.

We went on a plant hunt in the bottom playground before moving up to the top playground. How exciting it was! We found lots of lovely, green, tall trees and some small, colourful flowers. Have a look at some of the things we found in the pictures below.
