Year 4 are In2Music!

Year 4 performed on trumpets, flutes, mini-bassoons and violas today. They have been learning their instruments since September as part of our In2Music Project. Mrs Mead and Mrs Bullas were supported by Mr Hart and Mrs Clowes from Southampton Music Services. The children have started their instrumental journey and are sounding fantastic. They have shown determination and resilience trying something new and tricky. We are so excited about hearing their improvement throughout the next year.

Eco Club start preparing for an upclycled Christmas!

Today, Eco club were having a fantastic time upcycling materials to make Christmas decorations, with the help of Mrs Bedwell.

Eco Club meets after school on a Tuesday to help our school look after the environment and the resources we have been given.
Thank you, Eco Club!

Can you tell what they have made these Glitter Globes out of?

Green Council Recycling Games

Today, Becky Farminer from Southampton City Council Recycling Department came to talk to us about recycling and try out some games which will help us all to remember to recycle.

Here we are sorting out the waste into those that can be recycled and those that can't.

We found out that tin cans can be made into aeroplane parts!
We found out that you need to remove the lids and wash our bottles and we found out why that is important.

We are now experts in recycling so ask your Green Council rep what can and can't be recycled!
Do you think you know?

Wind in the Willows

Children from Year 2 had an amazing trip to the Mayflower Theatre. Children got to have a tour around the theatre - even visiting the fly floor and the orchestra pit. They then had a musical theatre workshop before getting to watch the breath-taking performance of 'The Wind In the Willows'. The children loved the show and were a real credit to their school.

Gingerbread Men

This week we have been making Gingerbread Men.

Children helped to add the ingredients then roll out the dough and use the cutter to make a perfect Gingerbread Man before staff baked them in the oven.

The Nursery smelt delicious!

Fortunately the Gingerbread Men did not run out of Nursery and children were able to eat them all up (just like the fox)!

Blocks!

This week, Nursery children have been busy outside exploring and building with our new wooden blocks.  They are great for making large models to sit on such as horses or rockets but also for developing our balance by making paths with them.

What would you make with the blocks?

Times tables whizzes in Year 6

In Year 6, we have been working hard to improve our understanding of times tables. This is because we know that learning our tables will help us accurately multiply larger numbers! Here are some pictures of us finding fun ways of practising our tables.

Wow! Look at this amazing video about the 7 times tables by G!
We love colouring by numbers, so why not colour by times tables?

Some groups have made their own times tables games using question cards and flash cards. Why not try making your own at home? We'd love to be able to play them in school!

Poppy Day at Shirley Warren

Mrs Bedwell has worked hard with her club making these lovely poppies out of clay.

Did you see them in front of the office?

We have been learning about Remembrance Day in school this week.
Do you know why we wear poppies?

Nursery's Visit From Zoolab

Visit from Zoolab

We had some very interesting visitors in Nursery last week! Heather from Zoolab came in with Tilly the tarantula, Alan the gerbil and a very long snake!

Ask your child to tell you about the creatures and - if they were brave enough to touch one - how it felt!

SAM and ODO came to visit!

Today, we were lucky enough to have Sam and Odo come and visit us in assembly. They talked about how important it is to come to school everyday on time. The children who were on time today got to meet Sam in the playground, he was very popular!

Here are some photos of Sam and Odo in assembly, we loved having them.
