Year 4 Chinese Cooking Creations!

Today in Year 4 we enjoyed cooking our Spring Rolls!

Having tasted the different ingredients earlier in the week to see which ones we liked, we have then been planning which foods we wanted to include in our spring rolls.

First of all we had to prepare all of the different vegetables. Some of us chopped, while others grated.

Then we fried our vegetables and rolled them in filo pastry before baking them.
Here's what some of them came out like!

A taste of China...'sparkling' into the New Year!

Our topic in Year 4 this term is China!

Today we tried tasting some different ingredients that you might find in Chinese meals. Some of the foods we liked, but others we weren't so sure on...

To support our topic, in English we will be reading The Firework Maker's Daughter, by Phillip Pullman. So we also had a go at designing some firework pictures. First of all, we used wax crayons to colour our pages in many different colours, before painting over them with black paint.

After the paint had tried, we used cocktail sticks to scratch off some of the black paint and reveal the colours underneath to create our firework pictures.
Here are some of our designs.

Making healthy kebabs in 1L

We planned, created, ate and evaluated our fruit kebabs.
The fruits were oranges, bananas, grapes and strawberries. Everyone's favourite fruits were the strawberries. Check out the pictures of 1L creating their fruit kebabs (parents enjoyed them too!)

Year 2 Celebration Picnic

As a treat after working so hard over the past couple of week, Miss Derby and Mr Fairbank (along with the help of the amazing Mrs Croissant, Mr Samuelson and Mrs Kennedy) put on a picnic for all the fantastic Year 2 children. We danced, we ate, we smiled and we played. Take a look at these photos. We challenge you to not want to have joined us!

Our Norman banquet in Year 2

Last week, we finished our learning about food from the Norman times - when there was lots of castles, battles and knights. We celebrated this by having a Norman banquet using all of the things we learnt.

We know that Norman knights and kings didn't have proper plates like we did as they were very expensive. Instead they normally used stale bread. We didn't fancy eating stale bread, so we used toast instead (and then we got to eat our plate... yum!).

On our bread, we could have had lots of things, like cheese (Cheddar and Wensleydale cheese both originate from Norman times), ham, chicken, jam, marmelade and fish paste. We also had a lot of honey at the ready because the Normans liked putting honey on everything, even ham and chicken! Some of us were very brave and gave it a go, and we didn't mind it too much...!

Here are some photos of 2D and 2F having a fantastic Norman banquet. Well done, Year 2, for being so brave and trying new things even though some of them were a bit funny.

Year 2D's class reward

In Year 2D, we earned a class reward in our first two weeks because we are incredible! Last week, we earned extra frogs on our class lily pad for lining up beautifully and walking to assembly so quietly that we had 3 comments about our lovely walking.

We had a vote, and decided that this time we would decorate some biscuits to take home. We had gingerbread men, some circle biscuits and some rectangle biscuits (perfect, since we've been learning about 2D shape)!

Here are some photos of us decorating biscuits and doing a wonderful job at it too - maybe we have some future contestants for the Great British Bake Off in this class.

Miss Derby and Mrs Croissant are very proud of the class for their fabulous behaviour, and Year 2D are already working hard towards their next class reward.

2H French Day 2015

2H have had a fantastic day today! It started with a French breakfast where children enjoyed fraise, raisins, banane, pomme et criossant. We then learnt how to ask and answer questions about pets. This afternoon we had a lovely time learning the colours of the rainbow and singing the rainbow song. Tous bien fait!
