As you know, today was 'Safer Internet Day.' The children spent the day taking part in activities and discussions to help them analyse their online behaviour so that they could identify the best ways that they could keep themselves safe when they are online.
To help you support your child in this, we have included information from the 'Safer Internet Day' website which is specifically aimed at parents.

Sports Day at RS and Nursery (afternoon group)
Yesterday afternoon the weather was kind to hold out for our super sunny sports day and we sure had fun! We managed to launch some rockets to space, balance countless pancakes and giant ice creams. We were very clever at the basket ball and throwing the bean bags into the hoops. Well done everyone!

Super Sport Relief Week at Shirley Warren!
We've had the best week at Shirley Warren fundraising for Sport Relief! Every single day we have had a sporty challenge to complete and we have tried our very best to take part. The challenges included balancing and spelling skills, yoga, dance mat competitions and on the last day we made up our own challenge using a Sport Relief balloon. So far, we have managed to raise £272! We have done ourselves proud! GO SWPNS!

Enterprise Fayre at Shirley Warren
On Friday, each class set up their stalls to raise money money for their chosen charity. They made goods to sell and designed a game for people to play. The Friends of Shirley Warren had their own stall too! The weather was fantastic and there was a great turn out of customers buying all of our amazing products. We are waiting to see how much money we raised, but we are all sure (and proud) that we raised lots of money for charities that range in countries and purposes linked to our Rights. Here are some pictures of the afternoon.

Every Child a Talker
Hello! It's ECaT time again and our 'Talking Tip of the Month' is Environmental Sounds. This helps to develop children's listening skills and awareness of sounds in the environment.
You could help your child at home by playing this game...
Collect objects that make a sound such as a phone, car or bell. Play the 'I hear with my little ear...' game and ask your child/children to identify the object. For example... "I hear with my little ear something that makes a ring ring sound." Then leave the objects out for your child to explore independently.

Communication Week
Communication week was a success with nursery children enjoying a range of activities to help develop communication skills. This included re-telling familiar stories, singing songs and nursery rhymes, such as 5 Little Ducks and making 'communication friendly spaces' outside where children feel more confident to talk.
We will share a new communication tip and activity to do at home monthly to help further develop your child's communication skills. Please see photo below or check out our parents' board.

Our Senses
This week in Nursery we have been talking about our 5 senses and what part of the body we use to see, hear, touch, smell and taste. The children had fun exploring different objects using their senses and talk about what they like and dislike. Why not go on a senses walk when you're out and about at the weekend?

Nativities
'One of the best parts of being a Governor is the opportunity it brings to attend a Nativity event at Christmas. I have thoroughly enjoyed 2 this year, having watched the Nursery & Reception children singing and acting early last week, and then KS1 Christmas Performance of the “Christmas Baubles” later in the week. Both events were delightful, with something for everyone to do- some excellent singing and speaking – and very good costumes – just what was needed to bring the Christmas Story to life and start the festive Season. Well done to all those who took part & also to Mrs Bullas and Mrs Mead and the rest of the staff who must all have been working so hard to get the shows working well. It is great to see the confidence of so many Children grow so that they can perform in public with smiles and clear voices. Thank you all of you….. now for KS2 this coming week!'

Scare the Cars Away Day
Today at SWPNS is Scare the Cars Away Day! Lots of children are walking, scooting and riding bikes to school wearing bright monster clothes and scary masks. On arrival they will have a monster breakfast they have designed themselves, including 'monster milk' and 'outrageously 'orrible oranges'!

Autumn Leaves
The Nursery children have been busy finding autumn leaves! During group time they sorted them according to size. The children used lots of mathematical language such as big, little, bigger, smaller and biggest and smallest. They were also talking about the different shapes and colours they could see.

Nursery's Potato Harvest!
Today we dug up our potato plants and found lots of potatoes! They were all different shapes, sizes and colours. We counted over 60 potatoes, but some will be too tiny to eat! The children learned a lot about how food grows and where it comes from. They have also been using their counting and sorting skills to find out how many potatoes we dug up. We also washed the potatoes ready to make mashed potato for our snack tomorrow!

Nursery's visit from the postman
Nursery had a special visit from Postman Andy last week!
He told us all about his job and showed us the different parts of the uniform he has to wear. Andy explained what he does when he delivers the letters and showed us the bag he takes round with him.
Postman Andy also had a special delivery for us all to take home - a letter to say thank you for listening. We really enjoyed meeting the postman - thank you for coming to visit us!
