2S Class assembly!

2S gave an amazing performance today for their class assembly! We crammed in loads of information that we've learnt about Florence Nightingale. There were some very clever nurses in Southampton General who told the story of Scutari Hospital in the Crimean War. Some children also showed off their super writing in role as Billy, a soldier who was treated by Florence Nightingale. Here's us doing a fantastic job!

Jamaican art

This term in Geography, we have been learning about Kingston in Jamaica. We were interested to learn about Jamaica because it is where Mary Seacole came from and we have been learning lots about her for our Nurturing Nurses topic! We have compared Jamaica to our local area and found similarities and differences between Kingston and Southampton.

One of the things we looked at was the Jamaican flag. We found quite a few similarities between the Jamaican flag and the Union Jack, like the triangles and the diagonal lines. There are also differences, like the colours!



For art this week, we made our own Jamaican flags in groups. We used lots of different materials like paper, fabric, tissue paper and some rubbery, stretchy material. It was lots of fun and we our work came out looking beautiful... and we tidied up the mess pretty well too! :)

Cecilia Mansford drops in on Year 2

Last week, we had a visitor from the past! Cecilia Mansford came to our class because she was best friends with a special lady called Florence Nightingale. We have been learning about Florence as part of our Nurturing Nurses topic.

Cecilia told us all about Florence's life and also showed us how to talk with a fan and write with a quill, just like they would have done when Florence Nightingale was alive. We also dressed up in costumes from Victorian times.
