Oasis Music Performance

Years 4, 5, and 6 all enjoyed some fantastic music performances from year 11 of Oasis Academy. We saw bands perform and even a very brave solo singer! It was great and we were able to think of lots of musical questions to ask about song writing and performing. I think it has inspired lots of us to write our own songs. Thank you Oasis!!

guided reading with students

Year 6 had a brilliant time  doing guided reading with  more students from the Winchester University joining us to see how we do guided reading and helping us as well.

Some of us searched news papers to find out interesting questions about different  articles. I enjoyed finding out where to look in a news paper for different things like what the weather was like in Devon (100 mph wind) i am really glad it is not that windy here!

This week has been anti-bullying week. In year 5 we looked into what bullying was and what we could do if we saw bullying or were being bullied ourselves. We also coloured in our 'Send All My Friends to School' children. These are pictured below. Well done year 5, they look great!

Y5 class assembly!

Phonics Fun!

We are feeling very clever today in year R having finished learning the first set of letter sounds! We will now be playing lots of games and doing activities to practise using these sounds in reading and writing. We started today by playing a 'run to' game outside which we loved. We ran to the sound we could hear and then put these sounds into words, well done reception!

Maths sculpture day in year 6

On the 13th of November the whole school had maths sculpture day, this was open to all parents and Year 6 had made cakes the day before, so we used then to come up with mathematical questions for instant, we used ratios, percentages, symmetry, and many more. At the end of the day, we sold them for 50p each and we raised £105 for the Royal British Legion.

Year Six Assembly.

For our class topic, we were based on World War Two and we had a project; this project was on make-and-mend and we had to create our own clothing which we wore in our assembly. Here is a picture.

Maths Sculpture Day Year 3!

Year 3 had a great time building their maths sculptures, they had the opportunity to use a range of mathematical equipment as well as craft resources. Every child was very excited and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! We even had some incredible questions about 2D and 3D shapes, as well as questions about quantities and measurement. Fantastic work!

We had great fun on maths sculpture day working with our parents to sort objects, use shapes, play with numicon and do number work! We were able to use mathematical language to explain what we were doing, review our learning and we had fun! Take a look at this example of our work where we have arranged shapes into a formation.

Maths and DT fortnight in Year 5!

For Maths and DT fortnight, year 5 had to try and create the most refreshing, cheapest fruit kebab they could. They had great fun designing, making and then evaluating their fruit kebabs, although I feel they had more fun eating them after!

Children In Need Piano Recital

We had the privilege of listening to a very talented member of school, who has worked extremely hard practicing for this occasion. She wanted to raise money this year after watching the Children In Need TV show last year, and the piano was her way of doing this. We are all very proud of her - super star in the making!

We had fantastic fun in Year 1 on Maths and DT Day. We made sculptures on fireworks using ANYTHING they could find in the classroom. What a mess was made! Then they asked mathematical questions about their sculpture and their friends then answered those questions. We had lots of parents helping, and fun was had by all.

The Great Shirley Warren Bake-off!

Year 6 had lots of fun researching, designing and making cakes this week!

Part of our DT curriculum is to make cakes for a purpose; our purpose is to raise money to support The Royal British Legion. To succeed in this we are hosting a cake sale on Thursday 13th November, at 2:30pm, in the Parent Partnership Room.

In order for the children to sell as many cakes as possible, they would like to conduct some market research. Therefore we would like to ask you to answer some questions in the surveys below to find out which flavour of cakes you would enjoy and want to buy. If possible, please take 2 minutes to answer the questions so that the children can make the cakes just to your liking!

The pictures disappeared and then reappeared in their Bible, both with and without colour. How did they do it?
