Y6 jazz band

Year 6 have been studying jazz in their music lessons this half term. They have learnt about jazz performers and styles aswell as learning to play jazz pieces. The biggest skill they have developed is 'improvising', where they make the music up on the spot.

Here are some clips from their performance to parents this morning.

'Twas The Night Before Christmas...

Well, what an amazing Christmas performance from Year 3 and 4! The children in 3H had such a great time and thoroughly enjoyed using their Talk for Writing skills to learn the whole of 'Twas A Night Before Christmas.' They performed it beautifully! The singing sounded great and we loved rocking out to 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday.' Thank you to all of the parents/ carers who provided Christmas pjs! We've decided that we'd love to wear them to school everyday.

2S Class assembly!

2S gave an amazing performance today for their class assembly! We crammed in loads of information that we've learnt about Florence Nightingale. There were some very clever nurses in Southampton General who told the story of Scutari Hospital in the Crimean War. Some children also showed off their super writing in role as Billy, a soldier who was treated by Florence Nightingale. Here's us doing a fantastic job!

If you want to sing along with us and hear the song we sang, click here!

Well done 2S, I'm so proud of you :)!

Last Thursday children performed in front of a huge audience of family and friends at Oasis theatre, Lordshill.

We heard from:

KS1 choir
KS2 Choir
Community Choir
KS2 brass, violins, woodwind, guitars and piano solo.

The children were astounding and made us all very proud.

Music Concert

Children from Year 5 and 6 stunned us with their instrumental performances on Friday afternoon.

We heard brass, strings, woodwind, ukuleles, guitars and even Bamboo Tamboo (thanks to the children from percussion club). The standard of playing was the best I have ever heard and I felt so proud of every child who took part. It was also the first performance by the school Orchestra who played brilliantly.

I'd like to say a huge thank-you to all the teachers involved in music at Shirley Warren and to all the parents who came to support the children.

An extra thank-you goes to James for taking all the brilliant photos!

Year 1 and The Great Fire of London

On Friday we had such a fun morning travelling back in a time machine to the year 1666 in a time machine. We met Samuel Pepys, Thomas Farriner and the Duke of York and they told us the story of The Great Fire of London. We found out where it started, we thought about why it started and what happened to London afterwards. We had to join in with role play, actions, sound effects, time travel and we even learned a rap! (Mostly because we are quite cool anyway...) The workshop made us want to find out more about the disaster so we spent the rest of the day on the computers and iPads watching videos, reading Samuel's diary entries and looking at pictures of what happened.

Have a listen to our drumming club's awesome rhythms....

Cinderella & Rockerfella

We were all blown away by the talent of the children in Year 5 & 6. Their pantomime was the best performance we have seen at Shirley Warren. Actors, singers, backstage crew, set builders  - all the children worked together to create a truly memorable performance.

Here are some photos. All the children will get a DVD of the performance and photos in the New Year.

Hosanna Rock!

Year 3 and 4 rocked the hall with their amazing performance of 'Hosanna Rock'. Well done to all the soloists, narrators, bell ringers and singers!
