Sports Day at RS and Nursery (afternoon group)

Yesterday afternoon the weather was kind to hold out for our super sunny sports day and we sure had fun! We managed to launch some rockets to space, balance countless pancakes and giant ice creams. We were very clever at the basket ball and throwing the bean bags into the hoops. Well done everyone!

Year 4 New Forest Trip

Yesterday, Year 4 went on a trip to the New Forest. We had great fun learning about the forest and the habitats that can be found within it. There were also opportunities to get up close with animals and their skulls to see what they feel like and decide what they might eat by looking at their teeth. The trip was rounded off with a lovely walk in the forest at Bolderwood once the rain had cleared up! Here are some pictures to show you what we got up to!

The Environment Centre Green Council Challenge!

Green Council were very excited to have a visitor to speak at our meeting today.

Christabel is from The Environment Centre and she came to tell us about a project she is running in Shirley Warren. She is looking at how people can use less electricity so that they can be more Green.

She asked us to imagine that we were not just the Green Council for Shirley Warren but for our local area.  What would we change?

First we played the "Earth and Spoon" game. we had to pick up litter and tidy up the city Christabel had brought in. We also had to return the animals to their habitat.

Next we had a poster to colour and decorate to show how we would like to see improvements in our local area.

If you want to find out more about the project, you can look at www.environmentcentre.com which has all of the contact details.

Thank you, Christabel.

Y4H Celebrated the Queen's 90th Birthday!

Today in Y4H, we had great fun celebrating the Queen's birthday. We had a big school birthday picnic and then we watched a live feed of the Queen's party at Windsor Castle in the afternoon, while we coloured in pictures of the Queen and her favourite things.

Queen's 90th Birthday!

Today we celebrated Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday! The children and staff looked fantastic wearing red, white and blue. We had a playground party with sandwiches, pizza, sausage and cheese rolls, salad, fruit and cupcakes! The playground was filled with Union Jack bunting and table decorations to honour the Queen's special day. Happy birthday to the Queen!

Year 4 children at the Ski Slope

There was a very exciting expedition to the Dry Ski Slope in Southampton. A selection of Year 4 children from schools across the Federation, including Shirley warren, had a whole morning learning how to ski. When the children first arrived, they were pretty nervous about this new experience, but by the end, they were all skiing down the slope. Amazing! Check out the photos to see how they did.

New Ukuleles!

We have recently purchased 30 new ukuleles for our music lessons! Here are year 5 enjoying their first whole class ukulele lesson!

Year 2's art afternoon

Year 2 have started building an art portfolio by creating a range of seaside art! Today we started it off by using a new material, oil pastels. We had a go at blending colours to make art that matched an artist's work. Have a look at us working and see what you think!

Soon we'll be looking at different methods of creating art using some material that we collect from our trips to the seaside... bet you can't guess what it might be!

Mayan homework from year 6

Today, the first few creations from our Mayan homework came in, and we think you'll agree that they have set the standard very high so far.

Well done R and A.

Zinger Zebra

Marwell Zoo has sent us some professional shots of our Zebra! Watch this space for details of the summer trail where you will be able to see Zinger at one with nature!

World Water Day Fundraising event.

This term we have been collecting money for our twin school, Tukela in Zambia.

They currently have 2 toilets shared between 130 students and 8 staff.

First of all the Green Council brought back their class bottles to count the money.

Next we lined up the bottles in order of the class that collected the most, compared to the class that collected the least.

Can you tell which class was the winner?

Yes, Year 5 not only filled their bottle but also had an extra bag of money.  When counted, it added up to £13.62. Year 5 have won an "Arty Party" with Mrs Williams next Tuesday afternoon.

Here are the children sorting all the money into different values.
I think this was their favourite activity out of all of the Green Council meetings this year!
Here are all of the denominations being counted after they were sorted.

When all of the money was counted by two boys in Year 6, we found that we had raised... £100.09!

What an amazing achievement, Team Shirley Warren.

Sports Roadshow in Year 3

Today, we were lucky enough to be able to participate in the sports roadshow. There were 5 different activities and we got a chance to have a go on each activity. We competed in class teams to work as a team and earn points for our class. We really enjoyed the activities and being able to spend time in the sunshine. There are some photos of us completing the different activities - some of them were really tiring!

Under the Sea

Pre-Nursey are learning about 'Under the Sea' this half term.
