The Big Soup Share!

Last week cooking club participated in 'The Big Soup Share'.

This event is part of RHS's campaign for school gardening.

The Big Soup Share was a chance for cooking and gardening clubs to celebrate the work they do in our garden by harvesting your crops, whizzing them up into a delicious soup and sharing it out with others.

I hope everyone enjoyed the onion soup!

Cooking Club utilise the schools harvested vegetables

This afternoon cooking club made special treats. Mrs Wilk said there was plenty of them made to share around!

The cooking club children are reaping the benefits of gardening club's harvest yesterday.
Wow it is great we can work together and help each other!

The children this afternoon were hard at work: washing the potatoes, carrots and courgettes, peeling them and then grating them all ready for cooking.

I hope the adults at home enjoyed these yummy and healthy rosti's :)

Check back with the blog to see what amazing dishes they will make...

If you would like to make this at home then check out this recipe :)

Gardening club have been harvesting!

After school last week the gardening club harvested potatoes which they had planted and this week it was onions. I could smell those onions from a mile away!

They washed and prepared the vegetables so cooking club can use them to make potato rosti's tomorrow, yummy!

Watch this space for pictures of the delicious, fresh food they will be making and eating.

Keep on using the environment to learn :)

Could you plant with you children? Could you harvest and wash vegetables at home?
Why not give it a try?!

Year 4 Chinese Cooking Creations!

Today in Year 4 we enjoyed cooking our Spring Rolls!

Having tasted the different ingredients earlier in the week to see which ones we liked, we have then been planning which foods we wanted to include in our spring rolls.

First of all we had to prepare all of the different vegetables. Some of us chopped, while others grated.

Then we fried our vegetables and rolled them in filo pastry before baking them.
Here's what some of them came out like!

Fruit Kebabs at Nurture Group

In our school we are proud of our Nurture group which meets in the afternoons.  There are many activities and projects which this group is able to take part in, so here's a little flavour of one of our activities.

Last week the group decided to make fruit kebabs. First they had to choose which fruits they wanted.
Can you see what they chose?

What would you choose?

Can you see which fruit these children are cutting?

Chopping the fruit was fun, but we needed grown ups to help with the knives, as you can see.

Assembling the kebab was tricky work. We used steady hands and had to be concentrating carefully. Can you see which fruit is on this kebab?
Well done Nurture Group, we hope you enjoyed eating your healthy snack which you all put in so much effort to make.

We had  great fun making pancakes today.  We all had a turn adding and mixing the ingredients and then cooking them in the frying pan and watching them flip over!

They tasted pretty good too!!

Chinese New Year

This week in Nursery we have been learning how Chinese people celebrate their New Year.  We have been cooking yummy stir fry and noodles, making dragons using red and yellow beads, writing Chinese numbers, using chopsticks and doing a dragon dance! This year is the year of the Rooster.

Gingerbread Men

This week we have been making Gingerbread Men.

Children helped to add the ingredients then roll out the dough and use the cutter to make a perfect Gingerbread Man before staff baked them in the oven.

The Nursery smelt delicious!

Fortunately the Gingerbread Men did not run out of Nursery and children were able to eat them all up (just like the fox)!

Y3S pizza makers!

As part of our science learning, we have been learning about healthy diets. We designed our healthy pizzas to include carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, proteins and dairy. Today we were lucky enough to make our pizzas. We really enjoyed making them and being able to eat them!
We used the grater to grate our own cheese. We were super careful to keep our fingers out of the way.  Mrs Bowers and Mrs Williams helped us to cook them which we really enjoyed.

Gruffalo Crumble

"And now my tummy is beginning to rumble, my favourite food is gruffalo crumble!"

In nursery we are making a delicious gruffalo crumble. We used fruit for the base and mixed flour, sugar and butter for the top. Delicious!
