2S Bubble Party!

2S have had a great afternoon! After a half term of hard work, we had our Class Reward... A bubble party! What better way to finish the term, than with bubbles?!

We had so much fun blowing bubbles. Here are some pictures of us enjoying ourselves!

Have a well deserved rest over half term everybody - see you on the 31st!

PS... I've got Freddy!

Year 6 Ipad Concerto

Here is a chance to listen to the final performance of the Year 6 Ipad Concerto. You will hear singers, instrumentalists and Ipad players, alongside a professional violin soloist.

Nursery Sing-a-long

On Wednesday 18th October, Mrs Mead came to Nursery for a very special music session to show parents what we have been singing over the past half term.

A huge thank you to parents and carers who could make it - we hope you enjoyed it as much as us!

Y3S have been thinking about trees as symbols

In Y3S, we have been spending a couple of days looking at Trees as Symbols. We explored how trees are used as symbols and whether we thought they were good symbols. We also thought about how we feel about trees and what they migh represent for us. We then looked at the tree of knowledge and created our own. Here are just some of the things we included on our tree of knowledge.

We also looked at the Tale of the Three Trees and wrote our own stories based on one of the trees.

1L take an Autumn walk around Shirley Warren

1L went on a lovely walk of the local Shirley Warren area.
We found natural things such as trees, leaves, flowers and water.
Also we saw many buildings made by people, such as a church, our school, houses and a park.

This leaf has now been added to our Autumn collage table.

We saw ducks swimming around the pond.

We know how to safely walk on the path.

Lots of buses drove past us.

Look at these lovely Autumn coloured leaves.

We know how to safely cross a road!

These leaves had fallen from the tree and were added to our Autumn collage table.

KS1 and Reception Disco!

We have some very spooky pictures to share with you... Be warned! KS1 and Reception have had a fantastic time at their disco. What spooky costumes they all had! Even some of the grown ups dressed up! I bet you can't guess who the children are behind the masks!!!

Every Child a Talker Parent Workshop

Today we had a parent workshop for helping to develop communication and language in Early Years.  Jan Stevens is a speech and language therapist who now delivers training to parents and educators across Southampton.

Together we looked at 'top tips' for helping children develop their communication and language, how singing nursery rhymes aid children with their reading skills and how developing children's muscles in their mouth can help speech sounds and being active by doing large arm movements can develop writing skills.

Parents who attended were given a free resource pack including games and listening ears to play with their children at home.

Please feel free to come and checkout our ECaT (Every Child a Talker) display in Nursery for top tips or speak to a member of staff!

Making healthy kebabs in 1L

We planned, created, ate and evaluated our fruit kebabs.
The fruits were oranges, bananas, grapes and strawberries. Everyone's favourite fruits were the strawberries. Check out the pictures of 1L creating their fruit kebabs (parents enjoyed them too!)

Shoe share Success

This week we have been helping UNICEF and Clarks by collecting shoes to be sent to other countries.

Here is a picture of the first day of the shoe collection, with Year 5 Green Council representatives.

At the end of the collection, we counted 79 pairs of shoes!  What a brilliant effort from Team Shirley Warren.

If you are good at doubling, you could work out how many individual shoes that makes altogether!

Fantastic Footballers

After school on Wednesday I was at Testlands Hub to watch my son play football for another school and look who I saw!

The boys from Years 5 and 6 played really well.  They won their first match 3:1 and lost the second 4:0 (neither against my son's school so I could cheer them on!)  It was lovely to join parents, siblings and grandparents cheering on the sidelines and great to see children I teach showing different skills to classroom work.

Special thanks must go to Mr Ship and Mr Kelly who organise and coach the children.  Keep it up, Team Shirley Warren!

1S - Healthy Snack Week

This week in Year 1 we have had great fun planning and making our healthy snacks. To begin the week we had a discussion about what foods we could use to make a healthy snack. We decided that bananas, strawberries, pineapple, grapes and oranges would be ideal. We then had to plan and design our kebabs deciding what tools we would need, which fruits we would choose and what safety instructions we should follow.

Today was the fun part. We had the chance to make and taste our delicious treats. We also invited our families in to help with the tasting and to talk them through how we had designed our snacks. They all looked very tasty!!!

Year 5 are Rockin'!

Year 5 have been learning to play the Ukulele this term. We have been listening to Pop and Rock music from the 1950s to the present day and playing some awesome tunes.

One of our favourites is Rockin' All Over the World by Status Quo.

1S No Pens Wednesday !

We had fun in 1S this week on Wednesday continuing our learning without using pens. We took this as an opportunity to combine art with science. We spoke about the artist Andy Goldsworthy, who uses the natural environment to create his artwork and had a discussion about what we might use to try and create our own versions of some of his artwork.

After this we ventured outside on a warm, sunny, autumn morning,  thinking about the senses we were using to explore the environment around us whilst we collected, twigs, leaves, flowers and anything else we could find that reminded us of autumn.

Once back inside everyone had a great time creating their masterpieces!
