Year 1 have been amazing readers this week!

Year 1 excitedly had their first dips in the treasure chest this Friday, and grabbed a prize, as a reward for reading 5 times (or more) this week.

All week they have been reading with their adults and receiving DOJO points each time they read.

Well done Year 1, keep up the awesome reading!

World Book Day in 1S

We had a wonderful time sharing books with each other. All of the children looked amazing in their costumes.  First, we shared our favourite stories with our parents and teachers. Then we practised our rhyming skills with The Cat in the Hat. Later this afternoon we shared some stories with Year 2. We also heard stories from other countries around the world. We had such a busy day!

We had a great day dressed up as characters from our favourite books.

We were lucky to have Year 2 join us and read their favourite books to us :)

A visitor arrives in Year 1. What is his story?...

Today we had a visitor in year 1!!..

What was his name? Fred, Zac, Jack, Tiger?

Where has he been? The forest, an aeroplane, on holiday, looking for the end of the rainbow?

What has happened? He has lost his camera, he has lost is family, he is going on holiday?

These were just a few of the ideas from Year 1, about the bear, using the clues they found and their imagination :) It sounds like he had a great adventure!

They were all so enthusiastic about the bear and what he had been up to, that we just had to write a super story all about him.

Well done Year 1, I cant wait to read all your stories!

RE Day in Year 1

We had Matt and Janet from Southampton City Mission come in to school to teach us all about New Life. We started off by thinking about the new things growing all around us, then we listened to some stories and played some games outside and finally, we finished the day by doing some mosaic craft and we listened to another story. We had so much fun and everybody (including the grown ups) learned lots and lots!

Goodnight Mr Tom

Year Six are reading "Goodnight Mr Tom" because we are learning about World War 2.
Today we watched the film.



One member of Year 6 said, "I really liked it. We haven't actually finished reading it yet, but it was a really good film and it proved that some people can be really nice and that other people can be nasty.  William's mum was unkind by smacking him with a belt and slapped him round the face and then later on in the film William came across Tom, who he had to stay with until war was over. While he was with Tom, Tom respected him and looked after him properly. For example, Tom threw the belt away into the mud and when Willy fainted, Tom jumped over to him and caught him before he fell."

Celebrating World Book Day in Reception

Little story characters invaded our school today: from Pinocchio to brave knights, princesses to butterflies and many more. The children introduced their characters. Can you guess who this might be?

"I ate a shiny red apple and fell asleep. And a prince kissed me and I woke up and lived happily ever after." (Child's words)

Year 1's Goldilocks Gallery

We are reaching the end of our 'Traditional Tales' topic, and we are producing our very own 'Goldilocks Gallery'. We have chosen our best piece of writing, describing either the setting or a character from the story. We have written, edited, and improved this work, and this finished product can be found in the gallery. Come to our classrooms if you want to have a look.

Year One Plan, Do, Review

In Year One we have started looking at Traditional Tales in Literacy. So far, we have looked at The Gingerbread Man, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and the Beanstalk. In Plan, Do, Review today some children have been role playing Jack and the Beanstalk. Here we have the cow, cheeky Jack and the very scary Giant! 

Year 1 on No Pens Wednesday!

In Year 1, we are learning how to use the iPads this morning. We have been writing our own stories on the app 'Book Creator' and these are some of our stories so far...

Celebration of year 5's commitment to completing narrative group!

A well deserved congratulations to Year 5's narrative group, who completed their narrative course today! They are now experts at explaining 'who', 'what', 'where' and 'when' things happen in stories! Now armed with this knowledge, they are set to write their own exciting stories that include all of the 4 W's and we can't wait to read them!

Today our school was captivated by the folk stories told by Chris Thomas and transported to new worlds which fed our imaginations! Each story related to our class topics, supporting our understanding in new contexts!
