Dance Mat Stars in Year 1

We had so much fun yesterday dancing on the huge dance mats!
We used lots of energy and showed off some our amazing dance moves.

Well done to Cohen who was the winner of the dance competition with the most accuracy.

Playground Buddy training has begun!

Today, children from Key Stage 2 who applied to be a Playground Buddy started their training.
We have over 20 children who want to help other people, which is really fantastic.

The children started by learning how to greet each other politely and practiced with people they didn't know from other classes.  Then it was time to learn our special song:

We're the playground buddies
And we're here to help you play (yay)
With Shirley Warren caps on
To help you all the way (yay)

Our games are old and new (true)
We can help you (true)

We're the Shirley Warren buddies
here to help today (YAY!)

We are going to sing it to the school in our final presentation assembly.

Finally, the playground buddies also learnt a new game called "Riverbank"
then went out to introduce it to KS2.

They were so excited about it. I'm sure it will be just as exciting for Key Stage 1 next week.

Y2 Experiment with GERMS!!!

We had a Science day this week to finish up our topic of Animals including Humans. Over the last term we have been learning all about the life cycles of different animals and we finished our topic by talking about humans and how to be fit and healthy. We asked questions that we wanted to find the answers to during our Science day, we made predictions then we did an experiment. We wanted to find out how you could get germs and the best way to get rid of germs so that we could make sure we are super healthy! After that, we wrote about what we found out.  We found out that warm, soapy water cleans away and kills the most germs! So make sure when you sneeze, cough or have been to the toilet, you use warm soapy water to kill those germs!!!

Fantastic Footballers

After school on Wednesday I was at Testlands Hub to watch my son play football for another school and look who I saw!

The boys from Years 5 and 6 played really well.  They won their first match 3:1 and lost the second 4:0 (neither against my son's school so I could cheer them on!)  It was lovely to join parents, siblings and grandparents cheering on the sidelines and great to see children I teach showing different skills to classroom work.

Special thanks must go to Mr Ship and Mr Kelly who organise and coach the children.  Keep it up, Team Shirley Warren!

Stretching ourselves in 6D - in more ways than one!

Last week, the whole school took part in Joe Wicks' live school workouts. On Friday, Year 6 tackled some (rather difficult!) exercises such as squats, lunges, mountain climbs and press ups. We had great fun but had some rather achy muscles afterwards! A great brain break and it helped us to think about our heart rate and our circulatory systems as part of our Science topic.

1S Keeping our bodies fit and healthy

In Year 1 we are currently learning all about our wonderful bodies and how to stay fit and healthy. When given the opportunity to join in with a live online coaching session with Joe Wicks we literally jumped at the chance!

We were quite tired at the end but all agreed it was a great, fun way to learn how to help keep ourselves healthy.

1L Getting fit and healthy!

1L were finding out about how to eat and be healthy this week. Part of their week was to follow Joe Wick's live workout as doing exercise can keep you healthy and has many benefits to your body.

Year 1 getting out of breath doing star jumps.

 Burpees!!

It's always important to stretch and Joe showed us some easy stretches to finish our workout.

Friday Fitness!

4T enjoyed a bit of fitness on a Friday - a great way to finish our morning and have a brain-break! Thanks Miss Dickinson for the recommendation, we're looking forward to having another go sometime soon! :)

Y2 Working Out on a Wednesday!!!

We had a massive amount of fun giving our brains a break and enjoying a quick workout mid-morning! Thanks Miss Dickinson for sharing this with us - we loved it!!!

Year 4 children at the Ski Slope

There was a very exciting expedition to the Dry Ski Slope in Southampton. A selection of Year 4 children from schools across the Federation, including Shirley warren, had a whole morning learning how to ski. When the children first arrived, they were pretty nervous about this new experience, but by the end, they were all skiing down the slope. Amazing! Check out the photos to see how they did.

Sports Roadshow in Year 3

Today, we were lucky enough to be able to participate in the sports roadshow. There were 5 different activities and we got a chance to have a go on each activity. We competed in class teams to work as a team and earn points for our class. We really enjoyed the activities and being able to spend time in the sunshine. There are some photos of us completing the different activities - some of them were really tiring!

Sports Relief Challenge 5 in Y3S

This morning we got a very strange challenge. Miss Smith told us about Miss Jones giving us a challenge to do with a balloon. We were a bit confused (especially as Miss Smith lost the balloon to begin with!). We decided to see how many times we could get it around a circle in a minute. Then we tried the under over challenge. Then we tried moving the balloon down the line without using our hands. That was the hardest to do! Here are some pictures of us completing our challenges.

Y3S Sports Relief

Y3S have been really enjoying the Sports Relief challenges we have been set over the week. We especially enjoyed the Just Dance challenge from Thursday. Here are some pictures of us having a go at the challenge.

Y4H Disco Yoga

For Sports Relief this week, we are taking part in exercise every day. Yesterday, we had to count how many star jumps we could do in a minute, this ranged from 70 - 120 in Y4H! Today, we had a go at disco yoga. We had great fun, check us out in action!
