Stonehenge

Year 3 went on a history trip to Stonehenge today. We had lots of fun and found out so many interesting facts about the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. We visited the exhibition and saw some prehistoric skeletons. Then we explored some prehistoric huts and learnt about Stone Age weapons. After lunch, we visited Stonehenge and saw the magnificent stones that were constructed from 3000 to 2000 BC. We learnt so much today and cannot wait to do even more learning in the classroom!

 

Black History Month - Serena Williams

As part of Black History Month, in Year 1 we have been researching the Tennis star:

Serena Williams.

We have been finding out why she is a role model and what she has achieved by working hard.

Many of us want to be amazing at Tennis just like her! Some of us already go to the schools after school Tennis club, so we can practise our skills.

We have shown our findings by drawing pictures of Serena and labelling these with information and her achievements.

Next we will be researching Lewis Hamilton the Formula One race car driver.

Black History Month

In 3C we have been researching different sports champions to celebrate black history month. We researched legends, such as Muhammad Ali, and recent successes, like Dina Asher-Smith. We then presented our findings to the rest of our classmates. As part of black history month we have also had class discussions about why it is important to celebrate people’s achievements and how they have influenced the world we live in.

The Great Fire of London

This half term Year 1 will be learning all about 'The Great Fire of London'.
This pupil was very proud to share with the class his adventures in London.
He saw the Monument that was built to remember the fire and visited the streets (Pudding Lane and Seething Lane) where the fire took place in 1666.
He was brave and climbed all of the 311 steps to the top of the tower and back down again!
Year 1 can not wait to use their Historical Enquiry skills to find out more about the events that happened in 'The Great Fire of London'.

A Victorian Christmas

Today, Year 5 were transported back to the Victorian days when we visited Beaulieu Palace House.
Thank you to everyone at home with the help with our costumes - we looked brilliant!

When we arrived, we took a trip on the Veteran Bus to the Palace House. We particularly enjoyed this because it had an open top upper deck and Miss Dickinson got to practise her selfie skills...

Obviously, after all that tomfoolery, it was time to get back to business as we became Victorian children seeking employment at the Palace House. We learnt all the skills we would need to be useful maids and footmen - this would've been important in the Victorian times because after the age of 10, children were sent out to work. (Luckily, chimney sweeping by children was banned during the Victorian age!)

After our grand tour, during which we took in so much fascinating information, it was time for lunch. Back to the Victorian classroom for us! (A particular shout out to parents here as some children had truly brought a Victorian lunch!)

After lunch, we went back to the drawing room at the Palace House to enjoy some traditional Victorian Christmas entertainment. Unfortunately, this did involved some terrible dancing by the adults - but we enjoyed laughing!

All the children were impeccably behaved - what a great day we had!

To end Year 1's topic on The Great Fire of London the fire service came into school to explain all about their job, how to keep safe and the equipment they use to fight fires.

1L have been amazing at learning all about The Great Fire of London and understand that if firefighters, like we have today, were around in 1666 the fires could have been prevented.

Everyone was super excited to get inside a real fire truck and practice being a firefighter by wearing helmets, driving the fire truck (simulator) and pulling a water hose.

It was a great day and thank you to Phil and Dave for teaching us how to keep safe.

Amazing home learning about The Great Fire of London.

1L have not only been enthusiastic in class learning all about the events of The Great Fire of London, but they have also been busy learning about it at home.

In the classroom there are now lots of pictures, timelines, facts, posters, 3D buildings, books and much more, on display, that 1L have produced at home.

Thank you 1L for always trying your hardest and producing amazing work and thank you parents for supporting their learning :) This really is a great topic!

Year 3's Have been building the Titanic in Dance ! We have been exploring both Unison & Canon as well as turns & levels with repeated patterns. After half term, we will add travelling pathways and shapes with contact. 

Year 3 visit SeaCity Museum

On Tuesday, Year 3 went on a trip to SeaCity Museum in Southampton to learn more about the Titanic. While we were there, we completed a workshop about the Titanic and got to explore the exhibitions about the Titanic. We learnt lots of interesting facts about the Titanic and we started to realise the importance that the Titanic had to Southampton. Here are some photos from our trip!

Norman Banquet in Year 2

Yesterday in Year 2, we dressed up as Knights, Kings, Queens, Princesses and Maidens to finish off our topic of Castles and Knights. In the afternoon, we changed our classroom around and had a banquet! We tried lots of foods that people would have eaten in Norman times. Lots of the foods were new to us, especially the chicken broth, so we were all really brave trying lots of new foods. 

Blitz art in 6D

As part of our World War 2 learning, we have been painting our own interpretations of the Blitz. We only had four colours to use so we had to be creative! We hope you like them.

Y4L voyage to the Mary Rose

We had such a fantastic day: we experienced life on board the Mary Rose as both a crew member and as an officer; we navigated our ship and plotted a course to Portsmouth harbour and spent some time with Henry VIII!

We learnt so much about life on board the Mary Rose... Did you know that there was a law in Tudor times that only rich people could wear velvet? Look at our pictures to see who was a rich or poor Tudor in our class.

In Year 4, we celebrated all of the incredibly hard work that the children have put in to researching, designing and creating their Tudor houses! We are so proud of their projects that we wanted to share them with you...

The Gunpowder Plot in Year 2!

We have done lots of work today all about the Gunpowder Plot and how we celebrate Bonfire night. We have had some serious fun finding out about a man called Guy Fawkes! We know that he made an unkind plan to kill King James, but before long, he got caught by the King's guards. We have done some acting, writing and all sorts of creative making and painting. We hope you like our pictures and enjoy seeing some fireworks this weekend!

 

Y2's Writing Castle

We wanted to show you our new 'Writing Castle' that our lovely Mrs King made for us. We are very excited about starting our new topic Castles and Knights next week - especially going on our trip to Portchester Castle! We are hoping we can get lots of creative writing done in this area very, very soon!

Year 3S explore the Stone Age!

On Friday, Year 3S went on a trip to Butser Farm where we had a Stone Age experience. We spent time in the houses they would have lived in and completed 4 Stone Age activities including making clay pots and chalk carving. We had a fantastic time and our guide Karen was very lovely to us.

Year 1 and The Great Fire of London

On Friday we had such a fun morning travelling back in a time machine to the year 1666 in a time machine. We met Samuel Pepys, Thomas Farriner and the Duke of York and they told us the story of The Great Fire of London. We found out where it started, we thought about why it started and what happened to London afterwards. We had to join in with role play, actions, sound effects, time travel and we even learned a rap! (Mostly because we are quite cool anyway...) The workshop made us want to find out more about the disaster so we spent the rest of the day on the computers and iPads watching videos, reading Samuel's diary entries and looking at pictures of what happened.

3S' special visitor!

During break time today something amazing and slightly unusual happened. Miss Smith returned to the classroom to find these all over the carpet! 

We looked around the classroom to find different clues and found some Stone Age cave paintings of different animals. We used all the clues to decide that a woolly mammoth had visited us!
