Gardening club have been harvesting!

After school last week the gardening club harvested potatoes which they had planted and this week it was onions. I could smell those onions from a mile away!

They washed and prepared the vegetables so cooking club can use them to make potato rosti's tomorrow, yummy!

Watch this space for pictures of the delicious, fresh food they will be making and eating.

Keep on using the environment to learn :)

Could you plant with you children? Could you harvest and wash vegetables at home?
Why not give it a try?!

Making Picture Frames!

In 3C we did some Design and Technology and made our own picture frames. We measured the size of our artwork and used saws to cut the wood to the correct shape. Miss Cooper helped us stick it together using a glue gun. We practised using new skills and had lots of fun!

Fairground Ride DT Day in Year 6

These photos show some children from Year 6 deep in concentration as they work to create their fairground rides from their designs.

Can you spot the amazing unicorns at the top of this ride?

They needed to include a motor to make it spin.

This group were the first to make their motor work.

Well done Year 6.

Helping The Three Little Pigs - 1S

We have been learning all about the properties of different materials this term in 1S. When we found out that two of The Three Little Pigs needed a new house, we decided to put our new knowledge to the test and design and build them a new home. We had to decide which materials would be strong and stable enough to stop the new house from being blown down whilst keeping the pigs warm, safe and dry.
After lots of careful thought and designing there were some very impressive houses built. In fact Mr Soffe was so impressed he emailed pictures of them to The Three Little Pigs!

Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!

1L's Traditional Tale came to life!

As parents may know we have been learning all about the Gingerbread Man and his story.

Today as part of our cross curricular lessons of DT and English we made Gingerbread Men.

We followed instructions in order and had so much fun rolling, pressing and cutting.

Next week we will write instructions on how to make these.
So watch out for this recipe in our book bags parents!

You can make this lovely treats at home too :)

Year 2's DT day

Today in Year 2 we have been building castles to finish off our history and science topics. We used our history work on castles and our science work on materials to create models of our ideal Norman castle.

We had a fantastic time and made a fantastic mess, but our castles look great! Some of them have working drawbridges which we made ourselves, either using a string pulley system or a winding system with wooden dowels and string. Miss Derby and Miss Waterfield were so impressed!

Thank you to all of the parents who contributed any spare "junk" you had at home. It made a huge difference to the children's work and we're very grateful for your generosity.

Well done, Year 2, for a fantastic first half term. We've had loads of fun and worked very hard!

Y3S pizza makers!

As part of our science learning, we have been learning about healthy diets. We designed our healthy pizzas to include carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, proteins and dairy. Today we were lucky enough to make our pizzas. We really enjoyed making them and being able to eat them!
We used the grater to grate our own cheese. We were super careful to keep our fingers out of the way.  Mrs Bowers and Mrs Williams helped us to cook them which we really enjoyed.

Nursery's Teddy Bear Picnic

The children in Nursery had a great time learning how to make bread.  They especially enjoyed kneading it and said it felt like play dough! We then had out Teddy Bear's picnic and ate our delicious fresh bread - our teddies loved it too!

Year 6 Dragon's Den

Last week, Year 6 performed a fake Dragon's Den.  All of the companies got invested because their creations were really good.  This is an example of one of the company powerpoints - the SSS.  SSS was short for Secret Silver Services.  The creator of the ring of vision is JB himself, The script creator was DM, The powerpoint creator was KAT and I am the one writing the blog!

Before the day, we prepared everything ready for the Dragons.  The ring of vision was made out of bronze and silver/cardboard and coloured pen!  We took pictures of the ring of vision for the powerpoint.

This slide describes how to activate the Ring Of Vision.

Would you buy the ring of vision? It's helpful for anyone anywhere.

Y6 Great Bread Bake Off!

Year 6 have enjoyed researching and designing bread this half term. Today we made our own bread rolls and tasted them. The judges were very, very impressed but a cheese and chive bread was crowned the winner. Maybe Year 6 can make more bread for their families over half term?

Y3S Pizza Makers!

Today, we were able to be pizza makers and create our own pizza! We had designed our pizza during the week after we discussed what we could make as a balanced meal that included all of the food groups. We drew a picture of our pizza and wrote a list of the ingredients needed to make it. Miss Smith then went off and bought the ingredients that we needed (she only forgot the mushrooms!) We had a great time making our pizzas and we thought they tasted yummy!

Getting ready for Christmas in Year 2

During Plan Do Review today, many of the children chose to get the classrooms ready for the last 2 weeks before the Christmas holidays. There were Christmas songs, tree decorating, paper chains, lantern making and much more. There was a lot of excitement in both classes.
