Hedgehog Pumpkins!

This week we have been using our gross and fine motor skills to make our hedgehog pumpkins.

The children did a fab job of collecting sticks and then using the hammer or their strong hands to push the sticks into the pumpkins to make the hedgehog's spikes.

Can you think of a name for them?

Problem Solvers in Reception

One activity this week in our outdoor environment has been the painting of a large branch. The children have been doing a great job of working collaboratively to achieve this and have had lots of lovely discussions while involved. They were finding it tricky to reach the top of the branch and this encouraged some lovely problem solving! The children discussed the resources outside that could help them and eventually decided the stepping stones would be a useful and safe way of solving the problem. What great thinking skills!

1L Getting fit and healthy!

1L were finding out about how to eat and be healthy this week. Part of their week was to follow Joe Wick's live workout as doing exercise can keep you healthy and has many benefits to your body.

Year 1 getting out of breath doing star jumps.

 Burpees!!

It's always important to stretch and Joe showed us some easy stretches to finish our workout.

Teddy Bears Hospital in RS

Today we were visited by the 'teddy doctors' who helped us make our fluffy friends better. They also taught us about how to stay safe around the house, what to eat to stay healthy and different body parts. We used different medical equipment like a stethoscope and blood pressure    monitor, which don't seem so scary any more. We also tried to remember these big words, which seemed tricky at times, but we will practise them.

Teddy Bear Hospital

Yesterday we were very lucky in RG to get a visit from the Teddy Bear Hospital. Some trainee doctors come to help make our teddies feel better. They brought lots of equipment for the children to use such as a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and syringe. The children loved being doctors themselves and giving these a try. They also taught us about being healthy and safe. The children assessed a home for dangers and helped keep Mr Mischief from making unsafe choices. They put the body parts in the right place on the teddy and discussed if we should eat a range of food always or sometimes.

Dance Mats - RG

This morning we had the best time of the dance mats! We tried really hard to follow the actions and loved working in a team to help our friend. We enjoyed the competition and were very tired afterward although the children did say it helped to wake up their brain this morning!

Sport Relief in Reception

We have had a brilliant start to Sport Relief week today in Reception. Lots of children spent the afternoon showing off their sporty skills on the exercise mats with lots of balances and different movements. We then even had a go at yoga. The yoga was to the story of Frozen and we followed along really carefully trying to copy the actions. It was so much fun and the children were much better than the adults!

Teddy Bears Hospital

RG had a brilliant visit yesterday from some trainee doctors. We took part in 'Teddy Bears Hospital' with our furry friends from home. We had lots of fun learning about healthy and unhealthy food, brushing our teddies teeth, learning about our bodies and what each part does and keeping watch over Mr Bump and Mr Silly so they didn't do anything dangerous in their house. However our favourite part was getting to be a doctor to our teddies using all the special equipment that the doctor brought. We checked their heartbeat, bloody pressure and eyes and gave them an injection or bandage if they needed it. Thank you so much to our visitors for such a fun afternoon of learning!

Remembrance in RG

I am very proud of all the children for being brilliant in our 2 minutes silence this morning! They were all very respectful and did good thinking about the soldiers and the war. We have been busy this afternoon doing lots of Remembrance activities. The children would like to tell you: "We did do our big muscles in soldier training. We pretended to do marching, crawling, star jumping and being really sneaky quiet." "We drew medals we made for being brave or kind or sharing or strong." "We made poppies. We used red, green and black and we can wear them when they're dry."

Physical play in Reception

This week in Reception we have been doing lots of physical activities to help our muscles strong. We have been using assault courses in the garden to help our big muscles. We have also been using playdough in lots of ways such as pinching, squeezing and rolling to help strengthen our fine motor skills. This is going to help us as we now begin our journey towards writing.
